This blue-green stoneware mug is wheel-thrown and finished with a hand-carved spiral and geometric pattern. The rich, layered glaze fills the carved lines and shifts in tone from one side to the other — a mug that rewards looking closely.

About This Piece

The carving is done when the clay is leather-hard, before firing — a precise process that gives each mug a distinct texture and depth. The blue-green glaze has a multi-layered quality: sometimes teal, sometimes slate, never flat. No two mugs are identical.
